Our Learning Leaders

A school's teachers are its most valuable and precious asset. They provide the bulk of the explicit and implicit curriculum that nurtures each child's development. Just as we seek to help our children act as leaders within our community - to help others 'dream more, learn more, do more and become more' - we seek to support our teachers to do the same. Our teachers are given the professional autonomy needed to imbue their teaching practice with their own interests, passions, styles and structures.

While all teachers at QACS are chosen for their commitment to our mission and philosophy, they each bring different experiences and skills to our team. Therefore, learning looks somewhat different in each classroom, as teachers are given the professional flexibility to select varying methods and content to best suit the needs and interests of their unique classroom compositions.

Differentiated curriculum (by its very nature!) requires teachers to do things differently, as they continually strive to respond to the changing needs of individual child and class dynamics. This said, our teachers are in constant dialog with one another to ensure that learning has a similar 'feel' across the grades and all core academic skills and concepts are being covered. Our Curriculum Overview provides teachers with a helpful framework for developing this sense of continuity.

All QACS teachers are experienced educators, with Washington State teacher certification. We place a strong emphasis on supporting our teachers to engage in ongoing reflection on their teaching practice and effectiveness. Our teachers meet regularly to discuss curriculum, upcoming events, scheduling, joyous moments and insights into their time with the children, and to ask questions and learn from each other. We work hard to create an environment in which our teachers feel valued and supported for the extremely important role they play in our community. To that end, we provide our teachers with the time and financial means to engage in and model their excitement for life-long learning.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”
– John Quincy Adams

"The key is curiosity, and it is curiosity, not answers that we model. As we seek to know more about a child, we demonstrate the acts of observing, listening, questioning and wondering. When we are curious about a child's words and our responses to those words, the child feels respected. The child is respected. "What are the ideas that I have that are so interesting to the teacher? I must be somebody with good ideas."
