We view parent involvement as a key feature that sets our school apart from many others. We believe in the importance of parents feeling welcomed and valued, and being dynamic partners in their child's education. We encourage parents to spend time in our classrooms, contribute their own passions and excitement for learning, and to view themselves as true partners in their child's education. We know the amazing benefits that come for children when parents are informed and engaged in their child's school learning experiences. With that goal in sight, there are many ways in which we encourage parent involvement:
* Volunteering in the Classroom - ideally, we like parents to commit to a set weekly or monthly time to work in the classroom, so that teachers can plan for extra assistance and the children can look forward to this additional adult presence.
* Day Visits - if parents are unable to commit to a regular volunteering time, we welcome the scheduling of special day visits to participate in the life of our classrooms. This option gives working parents the opportunity to join us if they have an unexpected day off work or are able to schedule a day in advance. We ask that parents try to give us at least 24-hours notice, again, so we can utilize you to your fullest potential and make your day as meaningful as possible!
* Field Trips & Special Projects - at QACS there are MANY opportunities for parents to help out with field trips or special projects. Teachers typically send out a request for extra assistance a week or more prior to the trip or event.
* School Community Events - there are many Special Events that enrich life at QACS. These events require a significant amount of support from parents to be successful. As well as their loving presence, our parents help by organizing events ahead of time, and assisting with set-up and tidy-up before and after each event.
Our teachers send home regular communications outlining current learning activities and goals, what the children have been engaged in and highlights from their interactions with the children. We also publish our monthly Pre-K to Fifth Grade QACS Times! newsletter, to build a sense of school wide community and offer the children a chance to share their learning with a wider audience. This ongoing communication keeps all parents informed of what is happening on a day-to-day basis, especially those parents who are unable to spend regular time in the classroom. It also provides teachers with a means of sharing their professional reflections and celebrating the many wonderful things they do with the children each day. Visit our Asessment & Reporting page for more information on how we communicate individual child growth and learning plans with parents.
