Celebrations and Community...
Each year our school hosts many special events for our families and wider community. Here are some of those we enjoy every year (see our school calendar for this year's dates and times):
Annual Art Gala
This cherished event is an evening where the children showcase their artistic talents and creations. Each class creates a 'gallery' for the event, sharing their artists' impressions and reflections on the various creative processes used to create their works. The children also act as 'teachers' for their families, choosing an art activity that they would like their family guests to engage in. This event provides the children with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their creative skills and passions, and act as a creative inspiration for their family and friends.
Learning Festivals
These are held toward the end of Fall, Winter and Spring. They are day-long festivals, comprised of various mixed-aged activities and performances. They provide all children within our school authentic opportunities to learn from each other, practice important leadership and communication skills, and share their excitement for learning with peers, families and friends.
Publishing Party!
This event happens toward the end of the school year, after the children have had the chance to compose many different fiction and non-fiction texts. Each child chooses a specific piece of writing they would like to 'publish' and present to their class and parents. This is an exciting event for the children, as they share their stories before an audience and receive feedback on their efforts. It is also a wonderful opportunity for parents to see how much their child has grown in skill and confidence throughout the year!
QACS Annual Auction
This is the school's major fund raising event. Current families procure items for the live and silent auction, guests participate in a variety of 'hands-on' activities aimed at giving them a taste of life at QACS, and a great deal of fun is had by everyone. All while supporting our fantastic school!
Open House
Each year we host one Open House each year, in January. The Open House is aimed at sharing our educational philosophy and approach with prospective families, as well as giving current families the opportunity to share what they love about QACS. Children in our intermediate grades act as 'QACS Guides', showing guests around the school and explaining our various learning spaces and artefacts on view. We view the main purpose of Open Houses as giving prospective families the chance to explore our physical learning environment, learn more about our educational approach, and to have plenty of time to speak with other teachers and current families.
Summer Gathering
A time for the children and their families to reconnect with each other and our teachers toward the end of summer break. We host a 'Picnic and Play' at one of our local parks, and have a special arts project for the children to engage in with each other and/or their family. This also gives new families the opportunity to begin making some connections with the wider school community.
