At Queen Anne Community School we believe in...

  • Education that respects and empowers children's voices - helping children to formulate and express their ideas, questions, opinions, feelings and dreams.
  • The power of belonging - children learn and develop best when they are part of a safe, stimulating and supportive community - where they feel free to experiment, take risks and be themselves.
  • Active learning - children learn more deeply and efficiently when they are able to construct their understandings in meaningful contexts, and in multiple ways. Our learning programs reflect our commitment to children being able to move, talk, build and create as natural modes of learning.
  • Individualized curriculum - we respect that children learn best in different ways, inspired by different topics and when learning is designed specifically for their current needs and understandings. Curriculum development is an on-going part of teachers' work, as they continually learn about each child and how the children function as a group.
  • Small class sizes - give teachers the ability to know and care for children deeply, and allow children to feel heard and contribute meaningfully to their community.
  • Creative expression - giving children the opportunity to express themselves freely in different artistic mediums and styles is something we value highly at QACS. We believe that art allows children to explore their identity, develop a sense of beauty about themselves and the world around them, and share their evolving thoughts and feelings in a safe and positive way.
